Fafnir – Nordic Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy Research invites authors to submit papers for the upcoming edition 3/2017. Theme for the edition is ‘reception, audience/s and fandom studies’ (e.g. The World Hobbit Project). The theme issue has been moved from issue 2/2017 to issue 3/2017. We invite papers that focus on all aspects of the study of ‘audiences’ for cultural and media products and practices that are connected to speculative fiction. As Finland is hosting the 75th Worldcon in 2017, for this edition we would also be interested in studies of fan societies, conventions, and their history in Nordic countries and beyond. ‘Audience’ is here understood broadly without any specific theoretical orientations.

Editors, Fafnir – Nordic Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy Research

We are proud to present the fourth issue of Fafnir – Nordic Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy Research in the year 2016! The issue can be read at http://journal.finfar.org.

We had some unfortunate slowdowns in publishing this issue due to a cyber-attack, some technical difficulties and staff changes. We apologize for any inconvenience.

But now, the issue is out, and what an issue it is! The issue includes four research articles, one essay, three conference reports, and one book review. Our special issue is devoted to speculative fiction in comics, graphic novels and animations. For this issue, we also have a guest editor, Dr. Katja Kontturi, whom we would like to thank for her participation in our team. We would also like to express our sincere thanks to our visiting sub-editor Tanja Välisalo, who made the final publication of the issue possible.

This is also the last issue on which we had Dr. Juri Timonen as our sub-editor and layout designer. We would like to thank our co-editor Timonen for his effective three years in our team. The journal would not have been possible without Juri’s meticulous dedication. Thank you very much, Juri!

The next issue will be published as scheduled in March 2017. Please also see our call for papers for our issue 2/2017. Theme for the edition is ’reception, audience/s and fandom studies’. The call for papers can be found from our website at journal.finfar.org. The deadline for submission is 15th March 2017.

Do remember that Fafnir welcomes submissions of research articles, short overviews, academic book reviews, essays, opinion pieces and the like. On our website you can find more detailed information on the journal and the upcoming issues.

Finally, starting from our next issue we will have a new editor, Dr. Bodhisattva Chattopadhyay from the University of Oslo, Norway. We wish Dr. Chattopadhyay a warm welcome to our editorial team!

Fafnirin vuoden 2016 nelosnumero on ilmestynyt!

Ylpeinä esittelemme Fafnirin vuoden 2016 neljännen numeron! Fafnir – Nordic Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy Research on luettavissa osoitteessa http://journal.finfar.org.

Paljon kiitoksia, Juri!

Seuraava numeromme julkaistaan maaliskuussa 2017. Olkaa hyvä ja lukekaa myös paperikutsumme vastaanottoon, yleisöön/yleisöihin ja fanitutkimukseen keskittyvään numeroomme 2/2017, jonka deadline on maaliskuun 15. päivä 2017. Paperikutsun löytää lehtemme nettisivuilta journal.finfar.org.

Fafnir toivottaa tervetulleiksi tutkimusartikkelit, katsaukset, akateemiset kirjallisuusarviot, esseet, mielipiteet ynnä muut. Lisätietoja lehdestä sekä tulevista numeroista on saatavilla lehtemme nettisivuilta.

Seuraavassa numerossa mukanamme on toimituskunnassa myös uusi päätoimittajamme tohtori Bodhisattva Chattopadhyay Oslon yliopistosta Norjasta. Toivotamme tohtori Chattopadhyayn lämpimästi tervetulleeksi toimituskuntaamme!
