FINFAR – The Finnish Society for Science Fiction and Fantasy Research maintains three central lines of activity. These are the publication of the academic journal Fafnir, organizing the annual FINFAR research seminar, and the general promotion of the science fiction and fantasy research in Finland.
Fafnir – Nordic Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy Research
Fafnir – Nordic Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy Research is the peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary academic journal of the Society. Fafnir aims at serving as an international forum for scholarly exchange on science fiction and fantasy and for discussion on current issues, with a special focus on the Nordic research field. In order to achieve this, the journal introduces and promotes research focusing on science fiction and fantasy literature and audio-visual art, games, and fan culture by providing an interdisciplinary perspective into the research within these genres.
Fafnir publishes texts ranging from peer-reviewed research articles to short overviews, essays, interviews, opinion pieces and academic book reviews on any subject suited to the paper. The main language of the journal is English, but articles are also published in Finnish or in the Scandinavian languages. The journal has its own editors and editorial board, separate from the board of the Society.
